Battle of the Books

The statewide Battle of the Books program is designed to encourage a love of reading. Students get the chance to read a variety of pre-selected books and test their team reading skills against other Wisconsin schools in February each year. Students can expect to read 10 – 20 books; they are then quizzed on questions ranging from character strengths or plot elements to quotes and book settings. Much of the work—reading—is done independently at the start of the year, with students working together weekly beginning in January to drill for the test. Meetings are held before school, and sometimes during lunch hours. Waupaca High School earned 3rd place in the 2014 State Competition.
